Welcome to Serenity, where we believe in the transformative power of communication and connection for every child. Established with a passion for fostering confident and effective communication skills, we specialize in providing exceptional speech, language, and feeding support tailored to the unique needs of each child and family.

What sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to creating a supportive and nurturing environment that empowers children to overcome communication and feeding challenges. We recognize that each child is an individual with their own strengths, and we work collaboratively with families to design interventions that align with their goals and values. In addition to speech and language therapy, we offer specialized support for parents of young children experiencing feeding difficulties, helping families navigate bottle/breast feeding and mealtime challenges with confidence and care.

Meet the Team

Shelby Stangl

Shelby holds a Master's degree from Rockhurst University in Speech Language Pathology. She has worked with various ages across various settings. Her specialties include receptive and expressive language disorders, articulation, social/pragmatic communication delays, and fluency/stuttering.

Outside of work, Shelby enjoys time with her husband, two kids, and three dogs.

Jennifer Doerfler

Jenn holds a Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Kansas. She has experience working in both public education and outpatient settings. She specialized in receptive/expressive language disorders, articulation and phonology disorders, apraxia, and literacy development.

Jenn homeschools her two young boys and enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and having adventures with friends in KC.

Ashlan Martin

Ashlan holds a Master’s degree from Truman State University in Communication Disorders. She has a passion for early intervention and educating families to help foster their children’s speech and language development.

In her free time, she loves spending time with her husband, 3 children, reading, being outside, and all things fall!

Mary Bierbaum

Mary holds a Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Rockhurst University (but graduated with her undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas and is a proud Jayhawk!). She has experience working with the pediatric population in both private practice and outpatient in a hospital setting. Her specialties include pediatric/infant feeding and swallowing, orofacial myology, and expressive/receptive language delays, and social language delays.

In her free time, Mary enjoys spending time with her husband, two sons, and their family dog.

Kara Adams

Kara holds a Master's degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Central Missouri. Kara has seven years of experience working with a wide variety of communication needs as a school-based speech-language pathologist. Most recently, she has stepped away from professional life to stay at home with her young family.

In her free time, Kara enjoys puzzling and board games with her husband, being outside and active with her three children, and tending to her vegetable garden. Kara is excited to dive back into working with children and their families to achieve their communication goals!
